Urban Airstream is coming back to Eaton Rapids for the fifth exciting year. Next week, more than 100 Airstream coaches will line the streets of our historic community in one of the most unique camping events on the planet. And this year promises to be the best Urban Airstream event yet.
Started in 1931, Airstream's sleek aluminum trailers quickly became an American icon. Over the years, founder Wally Byam launched hundreds of caravans of Airstreams traveling the globe. Today, Airstreamers continue to gather around the world and have added Eaton Rapids as a must-see destination.
Urban Airstream is unique because it is the only gathering of its kind where travelers can camp right in the heart of a community. Eaton Rapids' welcoming enthusiasm makes the campers feel right at home, even though their coaches are parked on a state highway.
Urban Airstream's unique camping arrangements also ensure that the community is the showcase. Urban Airstream founder Chad Carlson says it gives Airstreamers the chance to get to know the people of Eaton Rapids.
"Almost all caravanning events are held in rural areas, away from the people who live and work there. In Eaton Rapids we get to meet the people who make this town special. There have been a lot of friendships made over the years between the streamers and the people of Eaton Rapids."
Eaton Rapids city manager Jon Stoppels says Urban Airstream has added to the community's vibrancy and hospitality.
"We're always looking for ways to make the city a great place to live and work. Urban Airstream brings people from all over the country, and even Canada, to town and our residents love it. It also helps our local businesses who go out of their way to cater to the campers. There's nothing else like it and it's happening here."
